French Chateau Located In the South of France

Recently Tech-Dry’s innovative products were applied to a 15th century old Chateau. The tower’s façade had begun to crumble.

The construction of Chateau d’Osserain was started in 1654 when the stones of the cave (basement) were laid. The thick, fortified walls were built of local river stone and mortar.

Situated in the South-West region of France, the chateau overlooks the Saison River – the border between Béarn and Basque country. Over the centuries, the chateau, with its 25m tower, has stood sentry over the ancient bridge which joins the two provinces.

The chateau has had many chatelains and chatelaines (soigneurs) contributing various upgrades and alterations. The initial structure exhibited flat roofs which were changed in the early 20th century to pitched roofs.

Currently the chateau is in the best condition it has been since the early C20, having been rewired and replumbed, with five bathrooms, seven bedrooms, and central heating from forty-three radiators. It sits in grounds of 1.6 hectares with a circular drive to the chateau.

Doug Kagi from Tech-Dry Building Protection Systems Pty Ltd oversaw the application process by initially conducting tests within the Chateau’s compound to ensure the product’s suitability.

Two different Tech-Dry products developed by Dr. Ren Kebao were recommended and used to ensure support and protection of the decaying façade. Initially, Tech-Dry Densacrete 90 was applied to the surface for strengthening purposes then a secondary application of Tech-Dry’s Protectacrete S providing a waterproof treatment to further protect the surface from external conditions.
